Greg Cooper, Principal Investigator

Greg received a B.A. in Microbiology and a B.S. in Mathematics & Statistics from Miami University.  He earned a Ph.D. in Genetics from Stanford University in 2006, working with Arend Sidow on using comparative genomics to characterize functional elements in human genomes.  He conducted post-doctoral research at the University of Washington, working with Evan Eichler and Debbie Nickerson.  While there he focused on human disease genetics, with an emphasis on copy-number variants in neurological disease.  He moved to HudsonAlpha in September 2010.   CV

Ben Weaver, UAB Genetics Ph.D. student

Ben earned his B.S. in Molecular Biology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) in 2009.  He then enrolled in the PhD program in Genetics at UAB, and began his thesis work at HudsonAlpha in the summer of 2011.

Jana Whittle, UAH Biotechnology Ph.D. student

Jana Whittle earned her Bachelor’s in Statistics from the University of Alabama-Huntsville. She began working with Dr. Cooper as a Ph.D. student in spring of 2014, and is interested in applying and analyzing genomic annotations to better understand genomic function.

Former Lab Members

Preti Jain, Ph.D., postdoctoral fellow

Preti earned her Ph.D. from the University of Alabama at Huntsville in 2009. She pursued collaborative projects with the Myers lab on analyses of transcription factor binding and variant annotation strategies. She has since moved to the Oregon Health Sciences University, pursuing a clinical molecular genetics fellowship and training program.
